Kavita Mahajan

Psychotherapist & Counsellor

MONDAYS

Kavita is a registered Psychotherapist and Counsellor, affiliated with PACFA and ACA. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Counselling and Interpersonal Skills (University of South Australia), a double Master’s in Counselling and Psychotherapy (University of Adelaide) and is a Certified Couples Therapist (recognised by the International Society for Emotion-Focused Therapy). The comprehensive training in psychotherapy has shaped her therapeutic style to be integrative and interdisciplinary, drawing from the intersection of psychotherapy, counselling, and philosophy. She recognises how experiences shape people over time, influenced by their social, cultural, and environmental backgrounds. This understanding informs her person-centred, trauma-informed, and evidence-based holistic approach to therapy, grounded in a deep respect for the brain’s capacity to evolve, grow, and heal. Kavita employs a thoughtful, practical, and strength-based approach, helping clients develop effective tools while exploring and resolving their deeper patterns that may limit their sense of freedom and fulfilment.

Mental Health Support Services

Kavita specialises in both short-term and long-term support and provides:

  • Therapy to clients dealing with various challenges, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief and loss, stress, insomnia, attachment injuries, trauma, and the stresses associated with migration and integration.
  • Helps establish or co-facilitate support groups for patients facing specific conditions such as cancer or chronic illness, as well as those experiencing grief and loss. These groups create a space for individuals to share experiences and offer mutual support.
  • Supports the families of patients by helping them manage the emotional toll of caring for someone with a chronic or serious illness. This includes providing caregivers with coping strategies and, if needed, offering family counselling, fostering better communication and emotional resilience within families.
  • In crisis management situations, when patients are experiencing a mental health crisis such as suicidal thoughts or severe anxiety attacks, she offers compassionate support, conducts risk assessments, and refers patients to appropriate services as necessary.

Who Kavita Works With

  • Individuals or couples seeking help with relationship issues such as attachment, conflict resolution, and infidelity.
  • Individuals struggling with depression and anxiety (lacking purpose/meaning, suicidal ideation, panic, emotional regulation issues, etc.)
  • Culturally and linguistically diverse groups dealing with the associated challenges (managing intercountry familial dynamics, navigating new systems, maintaining cultural identity whilst integrating into a new community, etc.)

Types of Therapy

The modalities she utilises are tailored to her clients’ needs and include, but are not limited to:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (CBT)
  • Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT)
